Merly’s Story

“I woke up early, not super early but around seven in the morning.”

“I prepared breakfast because my daughter needs to go to school.”

“Afterwards, I cleaned and tidied up the house.”

“I worked for about two hours in the morning. I finished classes and cooked lunch. After cooking, I had lunch with my family.”

[With respect to food]                                                                                    “Every day is different, but yesterday I made coffee, and we had bread with avocado and fruit salad with papaya and apple. I like coffee with avocado toast. For lunch, I made lentils – white rice, lentils with steak, and salad – a very large plate. Afterwards, we drank celery tea because it’s good for the stomach. In the evening, we only had rice with a bit of steak and a bit of the lentils. Generally, we have the same lunch and dinner, it’s very typical here in Peru – I make a lot of lunch, and we eat the same for dinner. Then, we had coffee with “pan con queso” (cheese bread).”

“I like lentils, but my husband doesn’t. My son likes them, but my daughter doesn’t. Generally, my son and I have similar tastes, and my husband and daughter have similar tastes too – we’re opposites.”

“After lunch, I had classes as well – for about three hours.”

“After working, I rested for about half an hour, roughly thirty minutes. It’s good – household chores, there’s a lot of work. During that time, I listened to music on YouTube. I also enjoy watching videos.”

“I reheated the food, and we had dinner together as a family.”

“I also prepared food for my pets. I forgot to mention this part, but I give breakfast, lunch, and dinner to my pets as well. I have two cats, plus an adopted cat, and two dogs.”

“After dinner, I washed the dishes.”

“I watched TV for about an hour and also worked on the computer for about an hour.”

“Yesterday I didn’t watch a movie, I just listened to the news because a report about an earthquake in Taiwan caught my attention. Because of this, we wanted to listen to the news, but usually, we always watch movies. It’s very sad because the news showed videos of the moment the earthquake happened, and it was terrible.”

“I exercised for 20 minutes before going to bed.”

“Last night I went to bed late – I went to bed at midnight.”

“Nowadays, it’s almost the same every day because I work – I have virtual classes, so I spend more time at home and don’t go out much. Sometimes it’s not good, but before, I worked at the school so I used to go out more often – now I need to work and also work at home. Therefore, I need to organize my time.”

You can find Merly in Cusco, Peru, enjoying movies (with popcorn and Coca-Cola) with her husband and kids or strolling through the streets discovering new places, restaurants, and foods.

She would like people to treat their pets and all animals better.

“Many times, people think animals are just animals and that they don’t have feelings, and that’s not true. They are living beings that feel and suffer a lot, especially when they don’t have a family and live on the streets exposed to many dangers (like being run over) and mistreatment by people. I wish people were more aware of their actions towards these little animals.”
